It is estimated that there are 11,000 spinal cord injuries each year in the United States alone and there are 247,000 Americans living with spinal cord injuries. In the past several decades there has been significant improvement in the treatment and care of patients with spinal cord injury.

No longer do we believe that the central nervous system cannot regenerate. Stem cell research is promising. Medicine is making progress by leaps and bounds.
Seat belts have saved many lives, but in some cases can cause spinal cord injury, especially when just the lap belt is worn. Trial attorneys have fought to have safer restraints in all cars and are making progress, but have a long way to go.
